Impotence means that you cannot get an erection, or that you cannot keep an erection long enough to complete a satisfactory sexual intercourse. Impotence is common with age.
How is ED diagnosed?
The doctor will ask about sexual function and how the couple’s relationship is, to get a clear picture of the problem, duration, onset and extent. The doctor also places questions about the overall health and if you are taking any medication.
The body is also examined, focusing on the causes of the power problem. Blood pressure checks and blood or urine samples are used to explore how the circulation works and if the patient has diabetes.
Sometimes there is a substance injected that induces an erection in the penis corpora cavernosa. This test is used to determine which type of potency problems the question.
Samples of the hormone testosterone and other tests may be necessary if you suspect that there is a hormonal imbalance that causes impotence.
How do you treat impotence?
If there is a specific reason for impotence, it is important that this be treated. In addition, it may be necessary to add one or more of the following treatments, where oral therapy is most common.
Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are all drugs in the same class. Independent studies have not been able to demonstrate clear differences in effectiveness but preparations are slightly different in terms of properties and side effects. It may be useful to try to decide which medicine man himself prefers and therefore ask the doctor writing out small packages of all three preparations. For all three preparations sexual stimulation is required for efficacy.
Treatment with nitroglycerin preparations represents an absolute contraindication for concomitant treatment with any of the aforementioned drugs.
Viagra tablet is taken one hour before sexual activity. Side effects may occur, usually as warmth or redness in your face, or acid reflux. The effect of Viagra can usually last for up to four or five hours.
Cialis is a tablet that can be taken up to 30 minutes before sexual activity. Cialis has a relatively long duration, or erectile ability can persist up to 36 hours after taking the tablet.
Levitra, tablet, taken 25-60 minutes before sexual activity and the effect can be anywhere from 25 minutes up to four to five hours after taking Levitra.
Caverject, injection therapy where the patient learns to inject a substance that induces an erection, the penis. Since it takes about ten minutes before the erection comes and the average duration of a few hours. Injections are used especially when it is hard to maintain the erection and works for about 95 percent of men.
Bondil, pins, merged into the urethra. Bondil increases blood flow in the penis leading to erection.
Atmos (transdermal patch), Testogel (gel), Testoviron (injection) contains the hormone testosterone. Used in absence of testosterone. Also available as an injection every three months and then called Nebido.
Mechanical aids: Pubisring is a rubber ring that fits around the base of the penis. It is used when you have difficulty keeping an erection for a longer time.
Vacuum pump, a dense, enveloping cylinder wrapped around the penis, and around the base of the penis do you put a rubber ring. The pump in the cylinder is activated, creating a vacuum and the penis becomes rigid. The rubber ring makes the stiff market remains. It may also cause side effects.
Operative treatment: through an operation, insert the prosthesis into the penis so that an erection occurs mechanically. There are several different types of prostheses. Operation is used only after other methods have failed.
Sexological counseling, either by a physician or sexologist, usually most patients need. Sometimes sexological / psychological counseling, the only treatment that is needed to get an erection again, in other cases the therapy is part of treatment.
Generally it should be remembered, that if your erection lasts more than four hours, or if it is painful, you have to seek emergency help.
